|
| It
was sold to the Thor Dahl Company which was owned by
shippingmagnate Lars Christensen from Sandefjord. |
| Mr.
Onassis was driven in the Auburn when he visited the owner,
his friend Lars Christensen, and was also allowed to use the
car himself. |
| Due
to the famous people who were using the car and being driven
around in it the Auburn was nicknamed "the Hollywood
Car"! |
| During
the World War 2 the car was hidden and the tyres were taken
off. The Germans found the car but couldnīt use it without
tyres and left it untouched. |
| The
Auburn had about 5 owners all together of which Mr.
Arne Kolstad was the 4th and the present owner is the last
one. In 1964 the registration plates were removed and it was
stored away in a barn where it was found in 1982 by the
present owner |
| Presently
the car is in excellent and mint condition and drives very
well. All
perts on the car are original and all numbers are
matching. |
| Out
of 600 Type 654īs produced by Auburn in 1936, it is
believed that only 20 - 30 cars still exist today. |
| Today
the car is privately owned and has Norwegian paperwork
which indicates taht the car is not imported into the EEC. |
| | | This
particular car was sold in the spring of 1937 at the Frogner
Car Exhibition in Oslo. |
| Mr. Lars
Christensen was at that time very close friends with the
infamous Mr. Aristoteles Onassis, who came to visit very
often, partly due to his great love affair with Norwegian
Ingeborg Dedichen. |
| Because
the car was a very rare car in Norway and it was owned by
the very important Mr. Lars Christensen, who had friends
in high places, the Auburn was also used by the Norwegian
Royal Family and by King Haakon before and after World War
2 during visits to the area. |
| Every
winter the car was put on pallets and the body was greased
in vaseline. When spring arrived the car was cleaned and
waxed again which was quite a job. |
| Then
the car stood in storage for several years, completely
greased in vaseline. After the war the Auburn was sold to
a Mr. Thaulow, who was a relative of the famous painter
Fritz Thaulow.. |
| The
car was complete and in very original condition. The new
owner of the car started in 1986 to restore the car in his
spare time an in the summer of 1996 this ground-up
restauration was finished. |
| The
engine is a 120 HP 6-cylinder which gives the car a top speed
of 160 km/h. |
| In
July 1997 the car was a show winner at the Bastad Classic Car
Show in Sweden an the car was also featured in several
Norwegian and Swedish Classic Car Magazines. |
| We
mean that the car is a good " Investment ",
particularly since the purchase price is clearly lower than
the investment of the complex restoration costs. |
